Kiddies Parties: 5 Original Party Themes for Boys

Are you tired of seeing Ben Ten, Batman and Barney at boy’s parties? There are so many original, creative, unusual party themes that moms could and should use! So we decided to share a few ideas with you that we have discovered on blogs that showcase party inspiration and how-to tips. Here are our top 5 boy’s party themes:

1. A Racing Car Themed Party

Boys and cars go hand in hand. There’s no two ways about it. Your birthday boy and his friends are sure to enjoy this fast and furious birthday party theme. The ideas for this party were found at Hostess With the Mostess.

¬    Create invites that excite your guests and get their hearts racing! Word the invite in a way that points to the theme.

¬    Create a bunting banner for the birthday boy. Cut out triangular pieces of fabric or paper, print out the letters and paste them onto the triangles. Attach to some string and your bunting banner is done!

¬    Red is a great colour to go with for a racing car party. Make sure you add as much red as you can on the treats table. Red sweets, red cupcake icing and even red cooldrink!

¬    For party packs, print out a picture of a car and stick it on a red paper bag, box or a tin.

¬    Tell the guests to bring their favourite toy with wheels and have races in your garden or in a nearby park. Give small toy cars as prizes.

2. A Lego Themed Party

Boys love lego, so a lego themed birthday party is right up their alley! Lego is so colourful and interesting, there is so much one can do with it! We found this idea on Homemaking Fun.

¬    Buy / make colourful party bags and make them look like lego blocks by sticking round pieces of paper on the outside. Then make name tags in the same font as the Lego logo, free to download at www.typenow.net.

¬    Make the treats table very colourful with different coloured sweets, napkins and brightly coloured cupcake icing.

¬    Make a lego banner for the birthday boy. Print out the letters in a large font, cut them out, stick them onto bright red square boards and then attach to string/ribbon to form the banner.

¬    What would a lego party be without actually playing with lego? Set up different stations where the kids can have a go at making something. Perhaps even have prizes for the best lego creations!

3. A Treasure Island / Pirate Themed Party

Another character every little boy will roleplay with his friends is the treasure-seeking pirate! This theme leaves moms with lots of options with regards to décor, games and treats. Here are some ideas I came across at Hostess With the Mostess.

¬    Make your invites look like maps. Simply tea-stain the paper, burn the edges, roll them up and tie with ribbon. Say something like ‘Ahoy maties! Please join me for my birthday party!’

¬    Serve drinks in halved coconut shells, as well as tropical fruit skewers.

¬    Make pirate hats for the guests. Cut out black cardboard in the desired shape, print a skull and cross bones and paste it onto the black cardboard. Punch a hole in either side and tie a piece of elastic onto the back.

¬    Have a treasure hunt! Hide treats in the garden for the kids to find. Perhaps a treasure chest of those coin chocolates wrapped in gold paper?

4. A Western/Cowboy Themed Party

Every boy at some stage or another dreams of being a cowboy! Creating a western theme looks like so much fun for both mom and the kids. I discovered some ideas for this theme at Design Dazzle.

¬    For the cover of the invites, take a picture of the birthday boy dressed up as a cowboy, print them out in sepia and burn the edges to create an old western effect.

¬    Either ask the guests to come dressed as cowboys and cowgirls or provide dress-up items in a box that the children can use for the duration of the party.

¬    Create cowboy and cowgirl cardboard faceless photo stands that the kids can pose behind for photos. These will definitely make a wonderful addition to the family photo album.

¬    For the treats and beverage table, create a sign entitled ‘waterhole’. Serve the cooldrink out of big beverage dispensers and dish up ‘cowboy’ food like hamburgers, baked beans and hot dogs.

¬    For games, the kids can play ‘Pin the Badge on the Sheriff’ and ‘Cowboys and Indians’.

5. A Camping Themed Party

There is no doubt that every little boy loves the outdoors and the whole idea of surviving in the wild! Until it gets dark of course! J Creating a camping theme seems like a simple task, and at least keeps the kids out of the house. I found this party idea at Hostess With the Mostess.

¬    Create a sign outside the house with the word ‘Camp’ followed by the birthday boy’s name.

¬    For the party packs, use brown paper bags and fill them with small camping ‘tools’. Perhaps mini torches, maps, hats or binoculars.

¬    Set up one or more tents in your garden and make them look more attractive with material and ribbon.

¬    Make a camp fire and let each child toast their own bun and cook their own sausage on long sticks. Finish off with toasting marshmallows and perhaps reading a story.

Moms, I hope you have been inspired. So, when planning your little boy’s next birthday party, get creative! Don’t settle for the overused and unimaginative.
